Knowing Oneself

Well I am not sure if this is pathetic or not but a couple of months ago I googled what it took to be popular. Believe it or not I was not the most popular kid in school me causing issues in my own life and me just not really getting accepted into klicks kept me from getting into any one group of people. I had some friends that liked to talk to me and they were in different klick groups in the school. I really only had one true friend while I was going to High School.

As for college, I was really able to remap who I was. I created a new image and continued to develope it. A few hiccups along the way but it was a lot more relaxed and easier going personality that I thought I was in High School.

So I Googled "How to be popular". The results were... I guess not really what I was expecting. I was thinking maybe it has to do with your looks. The Jocks seemed to be pretty or at least attractive. Theater had a mess of people that seemed to be popular due to being known on stage. What I didn't realize while I was looking up this question, was how dead simple it really is.

  • Stop caring so much about personal image
  • Stop trying to be someone you're not
  • Be you!
  • Follow your own interests
  • Get out there and socialize!

That is the end of the article. At first I didn't believe it. Just be who you are and you will be rewarded with #followers. What kind of process is that?

...the real self is dangerous: dangerous for the established church, dangerous for the state, dangerous for the crowd, dangerous for the tradition, because once a man knows his real self he becomes an individual.

A few days ago one of my Facebook friends ended up posting an excerpt that was talking about finding yourself. I think it is a pretty cool quote.

How cool is that? ...once a man knows his real self he becomes an individual. All I can imagine is that once you know who you are as an individual, you can have the most fun you can. Why? Because you have a better grasp of what you want in life. You have a better understanding of what you do and do not like. You will have the courage to say no when something comes up to you that is against your morals. You have become separated from other people's opinions.

That is pretty cool.

It all ties back to the original outline of being popular. Stop caring, be who you want to be and charge forward screaming "YOU CAN'T CHANGE ME!".
